50 mile-wide massive dust storm descends on Phoenix Arizona

CHANDLER, AZ – Customers across parts of Arizona are still without power as crews and residents continue cleaning up after Tuesday night’s massive dust storm.

Several trees were knocked down in Chandler after the wall of dust rolled through the Valley.

ABC15 crews saw heavy branches and several trees on the ground near Chandler Boulevard and Arizona Avenue the next day.

An employee with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department was seen assessing the damage early Wednesday. He said he expected crews to spend hours cleaning up the debris and said the damage to trees could be thousands of dollars.

Meanwhile, utility companies had crews working overnight to repair damage to power poles due to the wind.

Wednesday afternoon, Steven Gotfried with Arizona Public Service said there only about 65 customers in the west Valley and Dateland areas without power and 50 in Yuma. But he said there were 2,000 who remain without power in Quartszite. Gotfriend said there was no estimate for when utilities would be restored to those customers.
